Jubal Stone is “The Tom Brady of Diplomatic Security”

Tom Brady is back!  And so is Jubal Stone.

Dismissed as being past their prime at their respective vocations, both of these determined professionals are proving that there's still plenty of life left in them.

Tom  Brady's shaky first game operating a new offensive system for a new team for the first time in 20 years had some foolishly declaring that the GOAT (Greatest of All-Time) Quarterback was 'washed up.' However, his most recent performances have put the lie to that.  His greatest tests lie ahead as he strives to lead his team to the NFC South Division Title, a position held firm by the New Orleans Saints the past four years.

Diplomatic Security Services Agent Jubal Stone will face the greatest test of his career when he learns that the Fallen Angel he is sent to apprehend has slaughtered a Michigan National Guard detail and disappeared somewhere in Jackson, Michigan.

In much the same way as Tom Brady was discouraged from continuing his career with the New England Patriots, Jubal Stone was pushed aside from his field position at the Office of Asset Recovery because his boss considered him 'washed up.'  However, after 12 Federal Agents are assassinated, he is pulled from a desk assignment and plunged into a nightmare pursuit of a Fallen Angel who was imprisoned inside a meteorite that struck south-central Michigan.

After a shaky beginning, Jubal rose to become the most successful special agent of the Office of Asset Recovery, a black budget unit that performs extra-legal operations for the State Department. After years of successfully completing some of the most dangerous, most difficult missions for his department, Jubal earned the nickname “The Tom Brady of Diplomatic Security.”

Jubal Stone's call sign is “Shadow” because he doesn't seek plaudits or exaggerated expressions of admiration. Like Tom Brady, he does not self-promote  and doesn't give up when the odds are stacked against him.  Anyone who counts either of these men out will live to regret it.

Just as Tom Brady experienced a 'down year' last season, Jubal likewise went through trials and tribulations of his own. He lost his wife and best friend over the last year and had difficulty adjusting.  When he did return to work, his focus had waned which caused the shocking failure of an important mission, just like the unexpected failure Tom Brady's Patriots experienced in last season's AFC Wild Card game versus the Tennessee Titans.

Despite the success and accolades he has brought to his unit, Jubal Stone has had difficulty with his boss, not unlike Tom Brady's experience with New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick in New England.

Excerpt from The Last Angel To Fall:

Jubal laments the lack of information from his boss: "He says this is bigger than 9/11, then handcuffs us. Tells us we're hunting a Fallen Angel. No further explanation. Then he practically kicks us out the door, without the intel we need. He's changed.”

"He hasn't changed,” Coleman said. “Inscrutable. Still playing Belichick to your Brady.”

"This whole thing is insane,” Jubal said. “How do you hunt a Fallen Angel?"

But just like Tom Brady is proving yet again that he's still got what it takes to compete at the highest level, Jubal Stone must prove that he can prosecute this most dangerous, most vital of all missions.

When Pennsylvania politician Alexander McClure pressured President Abraham Lincoln to remove Union General Ulysses S. Grant, Lincoln's reply was direct and to the point: "I cannot spare this man; he fights."  And Jubal Stone's boss has belatedly learned that he cannot spare Jubal Stone because, like Tom Brady, he not only fights, but wins.

When the chips are down, those around Jubal are quick to saddle him with the weight of being compared to the legendary NFL quarterback whose exploits continue to thrill fans across the nation.

Who knows? Maybe Tom Brady will play Jubal Stone in the film version of this novel.
