Intrigue at Ironbark Brewing in Jackson, Michigan

With an outstanding selection of craft beers and delicious food, you'd never guess that the Ironbark Brewing Company on Kibby Road in Jackson, Michigan was the location of a clandestine meeting between two men working for the Office of Asset Recovery, a top-secret, black-budget unit operating under the aegis of the State Department.

Nathan Brue, co-owner & brewmaster of Ironbark Brewing.

There's a comfortable, welcoming vibe emanating from Ironbark Brewing that quickly makes you feel right at home. A couple of weeks ago I was invited to take photographs by the aptly-named Nathan Brue, the brewmaster extraordinaire at Ironbark.

I took photos of the area I selected for this interaction between Thad Coleman and Archie Lewis to take place in the sequel novel to the award-winning The Last Angel To Fall. Photographs of the table these men sit at, what is in their line of sight, and what they see inside Ironbark help me to visualize their conversation when I'm writing, editing and rewriting the novel.

Ironbark's owners, Nathan Brue and Adam Cyrocki, have graciously allowed me to use their brewery for an important scene in the second book in the Jubal Stone Series.

The table where Thad Coleman & Archie Lewis meet in A Cold Day in Hell.

Book I of the Jubal Stone Series, The Last Angel To Fall, took place mostly in and around Jackson, Michigan and utilized real locations wherever possible. Though the sequel novel quickly moves the action away from Michigan, there are scenes that transpire in Jackson.

One such scene is the aforementioned meeting between the head of the State Department's top-secret Office of Asset Recovery Unit and one of his best agents: a meeting where Thad Coleman is notified that he is being sent into Hell to assist Jubal Stone with an urgent investigation into the disappearance of the American Ambassador to Hell.

A Cold Day in Hell, Book II of the Jubal Stone Series, is coming soon. In the meantime, stop by Ironbark Brewing to sample their unique collection of craft beers and mouth-watering food. You'll be glad you did.
