A controversial novel
I offer a warning about A Cold Day In Hell, the second novel in the “Jubal Stone Series.” The subject matter of this series is controversial. In reading this book and the first in the series, The Last Angel To Fall, it's important that the reader approach them with an open mind. These are works of fiction that explore the fact that there are two sides to every story, including the story of “God versus the Devil,” which The Old Testament and New Testament has enjoyed almost universal acceptance among Christianity despite the fact that it offers a one-sided point-of-view of the story.
To those who condemn this idea I would reply that anything legitimate can withstand criticism. It's also an accepted axiom that “the winner of the war writes the history,” but for some reason this objective reasoning has not been extended to the struggle between God and the Devil. It's also important to remember that the term “satan” is translated as “adversary” and does not necessarily imply evil. Opposing forces almost always consider their enemy to be evil, but that is a subjective analysis. It's all in the eye of the beholder, and who can produce the most effective “spin” on the story. So, sit back and enjoy the story, but prepare to be surprised and unsettled. Your worldview is going to be challenged. Try to remain objective and remind yourself that this is fiction, but fiction that poses serious questions that demand answers.
The Bible states that Lucifer was trusted with guarding the throne of God. It begs the question, then: guarding God's throne against who or what? The answer might surprise you.
There are many contradictions and inconsistencies in the Bible that require investigation. Taking sides in the war between what has been termed “good versus evil” is a serious decision. Blind worship or having faith without analysis should not be expected or demanded by either side. Such demands speak to another agenda that might be disastrous, which begs the question of what those requiring blind faith and unquestioning worship are trying to hide.
A Cold Day In Hell is ultimately about the ability of humankind to eventually overcome any obstacle. Where no solution exists, we often invent one. The solution to the main story problem in this novel is a testament to humankind's inventiveness and courage in the face of insurmountable odds. It is a solution that will leave many readers shaken.
