A no-win situation

Excerpt from A Cold Day In Hell:

Revelation tells us the Apocalypse must come to pass. God was always going to allow us to be destroyed. Major destruction and genocide are the preferred tools of His trade.”

With or without God, Earth was apparently doomed. Right now it seemed prudent to try to save Lucifer's life. When Asheba and I forced Immanuel into Hell, we had unknowingly caused a fundamental change in how the war was supposed to play out. Our actions had set in motion a course of events that were prophesied in The Third Testament, a lost holy book of revelation unknown on Earth. With our entire world on the verge of extinction, Hell would be the only refuge left for the human species. If Lucifer died we might not even be allowed to live in this nightmare world. As of now, all bets were off.

And if God does lose the war, what then?”

DeMarest took another swallow of wine, then cleared his throat. “That's what we want, isn't it? We're allied with Lucifer because God is out of reach and apparently either cannot or will not save Earth.”

I felt very uncomfortable about this. I nodded for him to continue.

There's so much we don't know about Heaven,” DeMarest said. “Even under blockade, it's supposed to be the repository of Creation Energy. What that is exactly, no one knows, but it could possibly be used to destroy as well as create.”

Destroy what?”

Well, if God concludes there is no hope left, He might decide it's not worth saving. He might opt to cut His losses and start all over.”
