Excerpt from A Cold Day In Hell:
“We are in a real tight spot with the ambassador out of the picture. There are projects waiting to begin that have been stalled by this development. We need a clear chain of command,” General Almon said.
“I know how it sounds, Agent Stone, but I'm just being practical,” Dumal said. “There are matters that require his signature. One of particular importance that not even Ms. Song has the authority to sign unless Ambassador Warren is declared dead.”
This was an angle I hadn't considered. Someone may have abducted or killed the ambassador to derail some agreement or contract. Who benefited by those documents not being signed?
“I'm going to have to know who was against these things he had to sign. Who this would have helped and who this would have hurt,” I said.
“No one was against this! Except, until recently, the ambassador himself, of course.”
So the ambassador had turned against this deal, whatever it was. If Dumal was telling the truth, then it had to be determined who had the most to lose if the agreement wasn't ratified.
“Who would benefit most if this thing was signed?”
“Everyone would,” Dumal said. “That's why it's so important we get a ruling on his status.”
“When you say everyone . . .”
“Everyone. America. Me. You. Everyone in this room. Everyone in the world. Not only do we get permanent title to the embassy and all the other land we've negotiated for, but we're going to be given free rein over a continent. A place to start a new America. A new world.”
Dumal sat back. He clasped his hands together. “Lucifer needs our help and he's willing to pay for it. He can’t trust his own kind, you see. His second-in-command, Malphas, she isn't even a Fallen Angel, just a major demon. Intel seems to think she has her own agenda and Lucifer probably suspects it. And there are a couple of other fallen angels who might make a move against him when he's gone.”
“Gone? Where has he gone?”
“He hasn’t gone anywhere yet. Later, when Lucifer takes command of his army for the final attack, we will take over temporary administration of his government until he returns. But we need the signature of the official head of this embassy mission to make it legal.”
“What final attack?”
I glanced at each person around the table. General Almon averted his eyes. Dumal just looked at his hands, but Song held my stare.
I couldn’t believe what I’d just heard. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up. A tingling sensation ran down my spine. The sellout of the human race was now complete. The State Department was going to run Hell for Lucifer when he attacks Heaven.
When he attacks God!
